Why did Jesus have to give a warning about being ashamed of Him?
Luke 9:26
“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.”
It is because He knew that here on earth, rebellion against God is what is glorified and obedience to Jesus is despised and attracts ridicule.
And because of the fear of men, that is why many Christians will end up in hell.
They want to follow Jesus without having to suffer ridicule, shame, being despised, gossipped, persecuted.
But the bible says in 2 Timothy 3:12
“Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.”
Persecution is only escaped by being lukewarm.
But all who will inherit eternal life will suffer rejection, persecution, being despised, being ridiculed and even killed.
The prince of this world is satan and that is why the world hated Jesus and still hates Jesus, and still despises His ways.
Following Jesus requires being different from the world and because of that it attracts shame because people will call you names because they hated Jesus first.
The world glorifies rebellion against God.
It glorifies partying, fornication, adultery, naked fashions.
It glorifies being upto date with worldly movies and music.
It glories sin.Alot of young people now feel ashamed to keep their virginity until marriage because fornication is glorified.
And if you shun that life you will face persecution because the world still hates Jesus and His ways of holiness.
But if you turn back because you are ashamed of following Jesus and you want to avoid persecution,JESUS WILL BE ASHAMED OF YOU IN HIS KINGDOM before the angels and the Father and will say He never knew you, regardless of wether you spent 20 years in church.
The world has never been worthy of God’s children.
Hebrews 11:36-40
Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.
They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented—
of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.
And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise,
God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.”
