Matthew 8:23-27,
"Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!" But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"
This storm happened in real life but according to revelations from the Holy Spirit, it can also be used as an example of our Christian Journey. The boat represents the word of God. Immediately you decide to become a Christian and get into the boat with Jesus, a great storm arises. The storm stands for persecution from the world. Your friends will persecute you and try to get you back into the world. Persecution will come from all sides such that you feel overwhelmed just like the boat was covered in waves. The devil tries to fight for you so that you can remain his. Just as the Lord wants you to be His, the devil desires the same. So that you can perish with him.
At that moment, it always seems like God is silent. Just as He was sleeping in the boat at that time. But they cried out to Him and He awoke and rebuked the storm. To call out to Him is to pray. When you pray, He will arise and rebuke the storm and everything will be calm. The devil has got no power but the Lord allows him to test us to see whether we truly love Him in all things or whether we only say we love him through the good and give up as soon as trouble comes.
True love is enduring to the end and carrying our cross everyday even as He carried His to calvary. Carry your cross and endure the persecutions for all who live Godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. Your friends will see you as foolish for reading the word of God.They will laugh at you and taunt you for dressing Holy. They will taunt you for not listening to the songs they listen to or for not watching the movies they watch.
There is only one way to Heaven and it is the road of persecution. All other roads no matter how righteous they may seem lead to the pit of Hell for all eternity. Jesus suffered persecution and He promised that if we too walked in His footsteps, we would be persecuted but Great is our reward!
If the world loves you and accepts you as its own, then Heaven does not know you. For you can not serve two masters at once. The world rejected Jesus and if you are a true Christian,it will reject you too for living a Holy life. But the bible says that the Lord is righteous and will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear, and He provides for us a way out in our time of trouble.
The persecutions are just a test of our faith to see if we really love him. For we are to be refined as gold is refined in the fire. So if your Christian life is a joy ride, sorry to tell you that you are heading straight to Hades where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Pray to God so that He may reveal to you what you are doing wrong in your life and live a life that emulates the life of Jesus. The Bible in Hebrews says we should endure the persecution that we go through just like Jesus
who for the joy that lay ahead of Him endured the cross and despised its shame and is now sitted at the right hand of God. The bible says that we should consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that we will not grow weary and lose heart in your race.
Friends, let us endure the persecution for it is only for a little while. The Prophets of old where even murdered for the sake of God and had their blood spilled. Now we don't have to die. The only thing we have to die to is our flesh. Let us not give up, knowing that anytime we feel like the burden is too much for us, we can call to the sleeping saviour in prayer and He will wake and rebuke the storm.
