The Lord told us that when we look at some people in the bible such as His Apostles, we think as if He just made them go to heaven because they were Apostles.
He said that they too had to work out their salvation with fear and trembling and that had they not done so and backslid, even they would be in hell today.
The Lord did not make them go to heaven by force as in, just because you are Peter or you are Paul, you will go to heaven no matter what.
They too had their personal journey and faced dangers, trials and temptations. Peter actually says in 1 Peter 5:9, "Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings."
They also went through times of discouragements like us and they are in heaven today because they preserved to the end.
The Lord said, "Even John the Baptist, if he was just preaching but not practicing what he was preaching would be in hell today. "
God gives us all a fair playing ground and no one has has an advantage over the other. He has no partiality as men do. He is God.
Colossians 3:25 "For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality."
