OVERCOMING SPIRITUAL ATTACKS
James 5:7 “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
Of recent, the Lord has been showing me how many Christians worldwide including Pastors who used to stand firm on the word and will of God have become weak spiritually.
The Lord has also been showing me that the devil succeeded in making them spiritually weak by first attacking their prayer life. He made them so busy so that when its time to pray, fast,sing,read the word of God or evangelise,they always have one excuse after another such as having had a long day at work and so they are too tired to do any of those things.
The other tactic that I saw the devil using was procrastination and laziness and then the Christian ends up not doing anything at all. They keep thinking, ” I’ll pray after an hour ” Two hours later, “There’s still time I’ll pray” Before they know it, its time to sleep.
However,we must realise that our work for the Kingdom of God must always be placed first priority before earthly things that will perish.
We should ALWAYS CREATE time for God in our everyday lives because spiritual activities keep us dressed in the armour of God so that we are able to discern Satan’s tricks and be able to defeat him through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 6: 14-18 “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.”
We put on this armor through the spiritual activities we do such as prayer,reading the word of God,evangelism, praising and worshiping the Lord etc.
However,Satan attacks our prayer life so that he can get the armour of God off us and leave us exposed.
When he succeeds in doing this, he now fires his arrows and we fall prey to various sins.
The armour of God helps us subdue the desires of the flesh but without it,the flesh begins to rule. Slowly we start going back to the things of the world to a point where they become normal to us and we no longer find things of God appealing. The believer begins to fall back into old sinful lifestyles, lying, fornication,masturbation,secular Tv/ music and general worldly living.
Galatians 5:17″ For the flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit lusts against the flesh and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things you wish.”
When we begin to fall prey to the flesh,Satan overwhelms us with a feeling of severe guilt and as if God will never forgive us.
His aim is to drive us as far away from God as possible so that he can lure us into hell and also to block our earthly blessings by making us conduct all sorts of sins that will block God’s blessings.
Isaiah 59:1-2 “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened,
That it cannot save;
Nor His ear heavy,
That it cannot hear.But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you,
So that He will not hear.”
We should however always remember that achieving God’s forgiveness and acceptance is just a prayer away if we are TRULY repentant. 1 John 1:9″ If we confess our sins,He is Faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ”
We should also however be weary of premeditated sin as the bible warns.
Hebrews 10:26-27 ” For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.”
Now the main point that I’m making in this post is that no matter how busy we are,we should always make time for God every single day. Even if it means waking up early in the morning or staying up late at night just to ensure that the day does not pass without us having given our time to God.
Spending time with God even just for 15 minutes if thats the only time one can genuinely manage for that particular day is better than not spending any time at all. 1% change is better than 0% change. Satan should never make us feel as if we’re doing nothing.
The Lord has been showing me in visions recently that Satan has used spiritual weakness to undo many Christians even to the point of suicide due to frustrations.
He showed me a heavy weight woman who looked Hispanic and she had drowned herself in bathtab. She was wearing a white night gown and her lifeless body was floating in the tab filled with water.
All around the tab,I saw demons blacker than night with sharp black finger nails and pointed ears with animal like bodies and I saw that they had been taunting her.
She did not realise that she had been under heavy spiritual attacks and had just thought what was going through her mind were her own thoughts.
I saw that Satan had attacked her spiritual life and she had gone further and further from God. Soon he attacked her with problems and she sought solace in alcohol, eventually she started reckless living and became so frustrated to that point of drowning herself on that fateful night.
All this time,the demons had been taunting her about how she was ruined both physically and spiritually and would never amount to anything.
She did not know demons were speaking to her and she thought that was the reality of her situation and ended up ending her own life.
What she did not know is that had she just got on her knees, God would have accepted her back.
This is the seriousness of spiritual attacks. Its not just some joke. It is something that cuts short destinies and damns souls to hell. It all starts with procrastinating ONE prayer and soon,prayerlessness becomes the norm and spiritual defeat becomes a lifestyle.
However, the Lord has exposed the devil’s antics so that we should be weary.
This message applies to every Christian including me.
James 4: 8 “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
