FOLLOW JESUS
In life, the number one factor that causes people to backslide is because they focus their spiritual standing on how someone else is doing instead of focusing their eyes only on Jesus.
Christianity is a personal journey and we should make a personal choice to pursue God.
If our spiritual standing depends on someone else such as a Pastor, it will mean that we will stand every time they stand and backslide with them every time they backslide.
We should not focus our eyes on how this person or that person is doing and comparing it to ourselves because each one of us has a different story written by God.
Maybe our story is shorter than that of another person and if we keep determining our spiritual stance on the spiritual standing of others, we may soon find that the last chapter of our book has been closed and it is too late to turn back and repent.
John 21:20-22 shows a story of Jesus telling Peter not to be concerned about what others are doing,but that Peter should just focus on following Jesus as instructed.
John 21:20-22 “Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “BUT LORD,WHAT ABOUT THIS MAN?” Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come,WHAT IS THAT TO YOU? YOU FOLLOW ME.”
Sometimes God will tell us to give up a certain thing in life,but we’ll be unwilling to do so because we’ll be comparing ourselves to others. We’ll be thinking, ‘Even that person is a Christian but they are still doing this thing or my Pastor also does this.’
How can you know if God has already told them but they just hardened their hearts?
Christianity is a Personal journey. It is not a group journey so one should not follow what their brother,sister, husband,wife, parents or friends are doing. Friends are the ones who mostly have a huge influence on our lives.
Everyone of us has a different story in life. Some will die earlier than others,some will die later,some will make it to heaven and some will end up doomed in hell because of wrong choices made while on earth.
Just as we came to this Earth individually, we must make a personal decision to follow God because when its all said and done,we’ll leave individually the way we came.
The only exception the bible gives to follow someone’s example is when they are doing the right thing,as Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Imitate me as I imitate Chirst” That is the only example we should get from someone. Once they are no longer doing things that are in line with the bible,that person’s way of life should not be emulated.
This is what has been on my heart and what I feel the Lord wants His children to be aware of.
Life is too short to make the wrong decisions and eternity too long.
